Get Ready, Get Set, Get Fit!

from: DietFitnessCenter.com

Trying to get in shape can seem challenging, especially if you don't believe in yourself. This article will help you set yourself up for fitness success.

Everyone does better with a specific, achievable goal. It's great to say, "I am going to get in shape," but what does that really mean? Choose a goal that can be measured. A good goal to have is not to lose a certain amount of weight, but to walk or run in a 5k. An activity based goal is something you are in complete control over and is much more flexible. If your goal is to run in a 5k, you can set goals for how much you walk or run each week until you are able to reach your big goal. After you have met your big goal, you can try to beat your time or go a longer distance. Using these smaller goals to reach your big goal will help you be aware of how much you are accomplishing.

Find people with similar goals who will be a positive influence on you. Having someone to exercise with can be a source of motivation. After all, you can't let your exercise buddy down! If you have found it difficult to stick to a routine, finding others to exercise with will help you focus on the social aspects, not the effort. Seek out people interested in fitness if you have to. Sadly, sometimes our friends and loved ones are not interested in getting fit. If someone tries to make you feel bad about all the time you spend exercising, invite them to join you or change the subject.

Do not get discouraged. Committing to your exercise routine and trying to meet your goals is a worthwhile effort. If you miss a certain goal, think about what you have accomplished while working towards that goal. Chances are that you will find lots of improvements you have made.

Make exercise a part of your routine. Take a class or schedule time when you are going to exercise. By making your workout a firm commitment, you are more likely to stick to it. If you are good at finding excuses, an exercise class might be the best bet. Once you have signed up to be there--especially if you have paid a fee--you will definitely think twice before taking time off!

Getting in shape is a lifelong project. We often think of the short term goals, such as being able to fit into a smaller size or building big muscles, but remember that you will want to stay fit once you have met your original goals. Even if you experience set backs, it is important to keep exercising. If you start to get bored, change your routine or try a new activity, but keep working on your fitness. It may be tough sometimes, but if you want to get fit and stay fit, you will want to make exercise a habit.

Fitness takes effort, but it's not impossible. Set a goal that you can achieve, and you are ready to get fit. By following the advice in this article, you will be ready to set a goal, and you will be setting a new one sooner than you think!
