Vary Your Exercise Regimen for Better Weight-loss Results

Exercise is critical for a healthy mind and body. Having a regular exercise routine is not only beneficial but laudable in modern times, when fewer and fewer people are making the time to be physically active. Unfortunately, a singular exercise routine that does not change can, over time, become a less effective use of that time. Having only one specific exercise regimen reduces motivation to work out and does not grant the full range of benefits exercise should provide. Follow the advice below to change up your exercise regimen and maintain your weight-loss goals!

The first and arguably easiest way to change your workout routine is to simply challenge yourself. As your body becomes accustomed to the exercises you perform, try to do more repetitions for each cycle. For example, instead of doing 10 pushups at a time, try 12 pushups, then 14, etc.

If you have the energy, why not challenge yourself to do more in the time allotted to exercise? Try a series of jumping jacks before and after your runs or a few sit-ups in between your pushups. Don't push yourself too hard, though!

Try alternating the types of workouts you do by day or week. A common way to split up exercises is by the muscle groups they work out. Perhaps you can make each Monday, Wednesday and Friday center around cardiovascular exercise, such as jogging, while Tuesdays can be for your upper body and Thursdays can be for your lower body. Be as creative as you'd like!

Many people who get into a singular exercise routine have difficulty breaking the routine to give themselves a rest. You're only human, and the human anatomy requires a break every now and again to grow stronger. Schedule in one day a week to either drastically lower the amount you exercise or not exercise at all.

Don't forget to make your workouts comprehensive. Each week you should be working out a wide array of muscle groups. If you're not sure whether you're neglecting a muscle group, consider consulting a personal trainer at a local gym who can help you assess what you are and aren't doing right.

Keep in mind that exercises that may not have you sweating constantly can still do wonders for your body. The organs and muscles of the body are, in some respects, similar to rubber material in that, if they are stretched out gently and frequently, they can become less prone to "snap" or "fail." Stretching before and after exercise routines is a must. Furthermore, yoga is an increasingly popular way for those on weight-loss/exercise programs to prevent damaging their bodies. Try attending a yoga session at a local gym or yoga studio at least once a week to guarantee that your body stays pliable and robust.

As with most things in life, moderation and variation are the keys to incorporating an activity into your lifestyle permanently. If you want to take your weight-loss goals seriously, change up your exercise regimen regularly using the advice above. You'll find that your outlook on working out and the physical properties of your body much improved for doing so.
