How to Gradually Change Your Life to Lose Weight
from: DietFitnessCenter.comIn order to lose weight, you'll probably have to make changes to your diet and lifestyle. It's easy to get overwhelmed and give up if you try to change everything at once. However, if you make one small change each week, you'll lose some weight and gradually shift into the healthy lifestyle you need to follow for optimal health.
If you are having trouble finding time to exercise, do it while you are watching television every night. Some people set up an exercise machine in front of the television or lift free weights while watching their favorite shows. If this doesn't appeal to you, try using commercial breaks to get some exercise in. Instead of running to the kitchen or bathroom during the commercials, get up and run in place or do some jumping jacks. This little bit of exercise adds up; if you do this every night, you'll have a full exercise routine in place before you know it.
You'll need to change the way you eat as well as what you eat. Many people gobble their food in between busy business meetings or don't eat all day then hurry to eat a huge meal when they get home. This causes you to not taste your food and often leaves you unsatisfied, leading to overeating.
One fun way to slow yourself down is to take out the mirror when you are eating. This allows you to see yourself the way other people see you. If you see yourself gobbling your food, you'll probably find it rather unattractive and slow down. Eating in front of the mirror also gives you the illusion that you are eating with another person, which can help reduce the desire to overeat in order to satisfy feelings of loneliness or emptiness.
Another simple way to get both your diet and exercise in is to park further away from stores. The further back you park, the more you have to walk, which will give you some extra exercise. This is especially helpful when you go to the grocery store. After doing that extra exercise, you'll feel more motivated to buy healthy foods, rather than junk food, so that you won't undo the effects of the exercise. Walking back to the car holding heavy bags of groceries can also provide you with extra exercise.
Gradually replace your soda intake in order to help accelerate your weight loss. Drinking soda puts sugar and extra calories into your system, making weight loss more difficult. It can be hard to drop a soda habit cold turkey, however. Ease into it by drinking one glass of water per day instead of soda. For example, if you usually drink five sodas a day, drink four sodas and one water. If you taper off of soda this way, you will eventually replace all of your soda with water.
While you have to make diet and exercise changes in order to lose weight, you don't have to do it all at once, nor do you have to be miserable while doing it. Have some fun making gradual changes so that you enjoy your weight loss journey.
