Understanding Nutrition When You Are Trying To Lose Weight

With all of this information surrounding you, it is likely that you might begin to feel overwhelmed. When considering your weight loss plan, it is important to understand that nutrition plays a critical role. Here are some guiding points that can help you work your way through all of the available information, and make sound nutritional decisions while you are trying to lose weight.
There are some foods you can consume a lot of and still lose weight. These foods are mainly fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are high in nutrition, low in calories and full of filling fiber. Include them in every meal and make sure that your plate contains about 3/4 fruits and vegetables at every meal.
There are some foods that you need to avoid if weight loss is your goal. These are mainly processed foods that are full of fat and sugar, and low in nutritional value. Avoid white breads, foods containing high fructose corn syrup and a laundry list of ingredients. Stick to labels that you can understand or foods that do not need labels at all and you will enhance your weight loss efforts.
Watch your portions of all foods. In general, we eat too much in today's society. The meals we eat are high in calories, high in fat, and about three times the size of what we actually need. Do all you can to control your portions and balance your nutritional needs. Make sure your plate is small, the size of a salad plate, and that it contains 3/4 fruits and vegetables and about 1/4 healthy proteins. A starch can be added, but it should not consume more than a small spot on your plate. An exception to this is if the starch is a healthy one, such as brown rice or a whole grain roll.
While you are trying to follow all of these rules, you might be asking how these rules can fit into your regular meal plans. Sometimes it seems like dieting means you have to eliminate all of your favorites, but that really is not the case. Modify your recipes to make them healthier. Add a little pureed fruit to a favorite cake or use some healthy olive oil instead of fattening butter in a dish. Take a look at all of your favorite recipes and you might just find that substitutions and healthy additions are easier than you thought.
Losing weight does not have to feel overwhelming. If you follow a healthy nutrition plan, reducing your portion sizes and making fruits and vegetables a priority, you will soon find that the pounds begin to come off. These nutritional plans will serve you well as you are trying to lose weight, and keep you healthy for many years to come.
