Lose Weight The Healthy Way
from: DietFitnessCenter.comEveryone would love to find a quick and easy way to lose weight, which is why fad diets and diet pills are so popular. But the best way to lose weight and maintain the weight loss is to use a healthy approach that allows you to lose weight steadily and then maintain a healthy weight for life.
Whether you want to lose 10 pounds or 100 pounds, you must understand that it will take time. Yes, you can probably lose five pounds in one week if you starve yourself, but you will only gain it right back when you start eating normally again. Plan to lose one or two pounds per week. That is a realistic goal that can be attained fairly easily without compromising your health.
Try to make sure that anything you eat or drink is nutritious. Instead of drinking soda with all its empty calories, try drinking water or a healthy juice. Instead of snacking on chips or candy, try munching on carrots, celery or an apple. Choose foods and beverages that are healthy and provide your body with necessary nutrients, rather than opting for foods that contain lots of calories but few nutritional benefits.
Instead of eating three meals per day, try eating smaller meals more frequently throughout the day. This does not mean that you should eat the same amount of food in each of those six meals as you normally eat at traditional meals. Rather, you want to consume the same number of calories, but spread them out over the course of the day. This makes it less likely that you will feel hunger pangs during the day that may tempt you to scarf down a bag of chips. It also helps maintain your blood sugar at an even level, so you are less likely to feel the fatigue that sets in after a big meal.
Whether you decide to eat the traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner or opt to eat smaller meals throughout the day, make sure you eat each meal. You may be tempted to skip meals thinking that you will consume fewer calories overall. Unfortunately, what often happens when you skip a meal is that you are hungrier when the time comes for your next meal. This makes it more likely that you will overeat at that meal. So it is best to eat a little something at each meal, rather than skipping one or two meals and being ravenous at a later meal.
Losing weight involves more than consuming fewer calories. You must also exercise. Schedule a time to do some type of activity you enjoy, so you are more likely to continue doing it. You can walk, jog, swim, play team sports or go the gym. Whatever you choose, make sure that you do it on a regular basis to help you burn calories and keep your body in shape.
Water is your friend when you are trying to lose weight. It is a no-calorie thirst quencher, and if you drink a glass of water before you eat, you are apt to feel fuller faster. That means you will eat less food. Water also has many health benefits, as it helps your body efficiently process the food you eat and eliminate the waste products quickly.
Try to get eight hours of sleep each night. Not only does this help keep you alert during the day, but studies have shown that those who skimp on sleep are more likely to put on weight.
As you can see, there are other ways to lose weight besides dealing with fad diets and diet pills that may have serious health consequences. Eat nutritiously and sensibly, exercise and get enough rest, and before you know it, you will drop those extra pounds.
