Want To Lose Weight? What Do You Do?

If you are like many of us, you have struggled at one point or another with the desire to lose weight. Having the desire is easy, but actually losing the weight is often more difficult! It can be easy to feel hopeless, as though losing weight simply is not an attainable goal for you. That, however, is simply not true. Losing weight takes commitment and persistence, but it is possible.

The first step in your weight loss efforts is to set a realistic goal of how much weight you would like to lose. It took some time for you to gain weight, and it will likewise take some time for you to lose weight. Be patient, and try to be realistic. Identify a reasonable weight loss goal, and write it down on a piece of paper. Keep it in a place that you will see often to remind yourself of your goals.

One of the most effective things that you can do in terms of reaching your weight loss goals is to get a very solid idea of what foods you are eating in a day. It can be very, very easy to eat far more food than you realize. Start keeping a food journal where you record absolutely everything that you eat. Many people find that the simple act of recording everything they eat will often help them make healthier food choices and eat less. Get an accurate idea of how many calories you eat each day.

If you want to lose weight, you will need to exercise and reduce the amount of calories you consume. The amount of weight you want to lose will govern how many calories you need to cut from your daily diet.

It is very important to stay hydrated. Experts recommend that you drink at least eight full glasses of water during the day, and more if you are vigorously exercising. Carry a water bottle around with you everywhere, and make sure you fill it up often!

Set an exercise routine for yourself and stick with it. What types of physical activity do you enjoy engaging in? Dancing? Basketball? Running? Whatever it is, pick activities that you enjoy, as you are more likely to stick with your routine. Schedule regular exercise into your weekly plans. Resist the temptation to skip exercise sessions. It is very difficult to lose weight without exercising!

Along with your food diary, keep a journal where you record your thoughts and feelings related to your struggle to lose weight. If you are feeling frustrated, or stuck, or proud, or anything, write it down! Getting your feelings out on paper can often be extremely helpful.

Although it can be easy to feel frustrated when you are trying to lose weight, if you are persistent and patient, it will happen. Be gentle with yourself, and the weight will come off if you work at it and make smart lifestyle decisions. It is indeed possible to reach your weight loss goals! Good luck.
