Losing Weight By Riding Your Bike

Losing weight is extremely difficult and challenging for any person. An excellent exercise that you can do to achieve great weight loss is bike riding. The below article will provide you with some tips on how to do.

Make sure that you select the proper size bike for you. Not having the right size bike can make riding a bike a very uncomfortable experience and can even injure you. In order to determine the correct size bike, stand over the bike frame with your feet flat. A properly sized bike will give approximately one or two inches of clearance between the frame's top tube and your crotch. Having the proper size bike makes your bike riding experience much better, which makes it more likely that you will continue to bike ride.

Make sure you have the proper shoes. It is ideal that your shoes are suitable for bike riding. Shoes that have "clipless" are your best best. If you only plan on biking five miles or less, however, then a light hiking shoe or outdoor cross-trainer will work fine.

Always bring enough water and snacks on your rides. Bike riding burns a lot of calories, so it is important that you replenish your body after you have burned off these calories in order to keep your metabolism going. Water is especially important when it is really hot because you could dehydrate yourself. You never want this to happen to you while in the middle of a bike ride.

Always know the route you will be taking. You should not just venture on a bike ride without knowing exactly where you will be going. Otherwise, you could get lost.

Purchase some tight biking shorts. These tight shorts help give your behind enough padding so that your bike ride is as comfortable as possible. Although many people prefer to get padding for the bike seat, this isn't the best option. Extra padding can cause your seat position to be compromised. This causes you to lean forward more, which puts more pressure on your soft tissue instead of the harder sit bones.

Carry a tire fixing kit with you in case something were to happen to one of your tires during your bike ride. You do not want to be in the middle of a long ride, and then your tire goes out. This will force you to call someone, hitchhike, or walk all the way home. If you have biked many miles, this can be a great burden.

Ensure that you carry a first aid kit with you. No matter how careful we may be, accidents do happen. Injuries happen from time to time. Having a first aid kit will allow you to treat any wound immediately so that it does not get any worse.

Bike riding can be an excellent method of losing weight; however, you should ensure you are properly prepared when doing it. By following the above tips, you will be ready to ride so that you can drop all those unwanted pounds from your body.
