Keeping a Positive Outlook on Weight-loss
from: DietFitnessCenter.comWeight-loss. It is the bane of existence for some but a thrill for others. Regardless of personal outlook on the matter, however, nearly everyone agrees that exercise is key for successful weight-loss. So the real question is not whether exercise is enjoyed by some and not by others but rather how can people with an aversion toward exercising find the motivation to get up and start moving their bodies? Below you can find some advice for how to discover, capture and harness this sort of motivation to get you on your way to successful weight-loss in no time!
First things first, don't try running a marathon on your first day on the treadmill. Underestimate what you are able to do, particularly at the beginning of your weight-loss program, so that you don't let yourself down. Positive reinforcement is key for building motivation to workout. If you set goals too high, then you'll find yourself avoiding working out just so that you don't fail. No one likes to feel like a failure, so make sure your goals are doable.
While the gym might be a supportive and enjoyable environment for some, it can lead to feelings of inadequacy or, more frequently, boredom for others. If you fall into the latter category then give sports a try. There are team sports like basketball and soccer that can get you to break a sweat while having fun and making friends. If you happen to be more of a solitary soul, then consider something like swimming.
Often overlooked but equally as important as the exercise itself is your mindset. At least once a week take the time to reflect on your strengths and give yourself a pep talk. Everyone needs some encouragement once in awhile and who better to give you that pat on the back than yourself? You have to be optimistic or your motivation to exercise will decrease.
While keeping a regular exercise regimen is important, don't forget to keep your routine in moderation. If you work out like crazy one week but neglect to work out the next, then you will not see your desired results, which may cause a decrease in motivation. Keep focused on your end goal but give yourself ample time to get there. Take things day by day in order to keep your motivation strong.
Finally, try to find someone who has relatively similar goals and make a schedule to workout/check-in with them. A workout buddy provides a social pressure that can give you the kick in the behind you need to get out the door and start moving. After all, who wants to back out on an obligation to a friend? And this friend can also help you be cognizant of your weight-loss progress. He/she can provide feedback and you can achieve your goals alongside one another.
Having the motivation to pursue a weight-loss routine is not out of reach. Using the tips above you can find the spark you need to go above and beyond your goals!
