However, this type of dieting is unhealthy and can be dangerous. Avoid crash diets in favor of eating balanced, healthy meals and lose weight a little bit a time to ensure you are losing weight safely.
All diets work by cutting excess calories so that your body has to burn stored fat, but crash diets take this to unhealthy extremes. Some diets limit you to 800 calories or less per day. This is unhealthy and dangerous, and may not even give you the results you seek. You need to eat a minimum of 1,200 calories per day for optimal health; the bigger and taller you are, the more calories you need to maintain your energy level and get your body the nutrients it needs. If you don't eat enough calories, at first you will gain weight instead of losing it because your body holds onto stored fat if it is starving. Eventually, your body will run out of stored fat and you will lose weight, but you will become weak and your body will not be able to function appropriately. If you stay on this kind of diet for a long period of time, it can even be fatal.
Single food diets are another popular crash diet that can be extremely dangerous. These types of diets limit you to eating a single food, such as grapefruits or cottage cheese. These diets tend to be extremely low-calorie, as you have to eat a massive amount of the food to get a proper amount of calories. In addition, if you only eat one type of food, you don't get the nutrients you need to remain healthy. No one food has all the nutrients you need for optimal health, so you'll miss out on vitamins and nutrients, which can lead to serious diseases such as scurvy or rickets.
Diet pills are an extremely dangerous, and unfortunately popular, way of speed dieting. These pills promise to suppress your appetite or cause you to eliminate food more quickly if you take them every day as promised. However, there are lots of hidden dangers with diet pills.
Diet pills that absorb fats can interfere with the digestive system's natural functions, causing stomach cramps and nausea. They can also stop the stomach from absorbing vitamins and nutrients when it digests food, which can lead to vitamin deficiencies and serious diseases. In addition, some diet pills work by altering your brain chemistry so that you don't feel hungry. This not only interferes with brain functioning, but can cause you to become addicted. Suddenly stopping these types of pills can cause serious health problems or even death, while continuing to depend on them can interfere with your physical and psychological health.
Crash diets are tempting to people who want to lose weight quickly, but the price you pay for fast weight loss is often health problems, and in some cases you may pay with your life. Instead of crash dieting, be patient and follow a more traditional diet so that you can lose your weight in a healthy and safe manner.
