Fad Diets Equal Empty Promises

For decades, people all over the world have fallen victim to fad dieting at least once. In this day and age, where everyone wants to be thin and attractive, anything seems worth trying. Fad diets can work in the short run, but more often than not, they are impossible to stick to and end up causing weight to creep back on. Get rid of all those unhealthy, processed and canned foods! They contain excessive amounts of fat, chemicals and sodium and have no place in a nutritious diet. Instead, cultivate a love for fresh food, such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains. You will be amazed at how much better you feel!

It is vital to get enough fiber in your diet. Foods like whole grain breads and pastas, fruit and vegetables are great for increasing fiber intake. There are also fiber supplements that can be found at any health food store. Fiber is important in keeping your digestive system working properly.

In order to lose weight, you must learn to control that sweet tooth! It doesn't have to mean torture to give up the candy, pastries and sugary sodas if you know what to use for substitutes. Learn to make low-fat and sugar-free desserts. Put together fruit plates with yogurt-based dips or some sugar-free sorbet. Look in any bookstore, library or online for a multitude of ideas!

Set specific times for meals and stick as close as possible to a schedule. It helps to know when you will be eating so that you can look forward to it instead of grabbing quick snacks whenever you feel like it. And remember, it's crucial not to skip meals. Regular meals keep your energy levels up throughout the day and keep hunger pangs and cravings at bay.

Snacking is good! Don't listen when people say it isn't. High-protein snacks such as string cheese, a hard-boiled egg or even some fruit or yogurt can go a long way to keep you energized and less likely to fall victim to between-meal cravings!

Choose your drinks wisely! Coffee and tea are fine, but don't load them up with flavored creams or sugar. Use an artificial sweetener or have them black. Drink plenty of water. You can dress it up with some fresh lemon or lime slices or sparkling soda.

The best rule to follow when you want to lose weight is to do everything in moderation. If you eat moderate amounts of lean protein or fish, load up on salad and veggies with some fruit and whole grains added in, you will lose weight without having to count calories or carbs!

As you can see, you don't need to starve yourself on popular fad diets to lose weight. True weight loss that stays off can be achieved easily by eating the right foods and getting plenty of exercise. You will be amazed at how healthy you will feel as you lose weight the healthy way- by eating!
